The Vmax is an absolute beast of a cruiser. With roughly 145 stock horsepower, this bike is a blast to ride, but I have a hard time thinking of anything other than Nic Cage in Ghost Rider when I look at it. This is where Yamaha's Yard Built program takes the reigns and does what it does best: take a brilliantly functional bike like the VMax and add the custom flare and styling that it so badly needs.
The V-Speed is a product of Yamaha's dealer custom contest, more specifically, from the French builders at Liberty Yamaha. The Café-Dragster style is a very rarely seen take on the powerful street bruiser that celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Many of its pieces are one-off hand made designs.
The cool half-fairing is inspired by the MT-OS and compliments the aluminium loop back, carbon details and leather seat. The VMAX is lowered by 2cm and also features a quick shifter with control on the handlebars. There is a larger rear rim and the added weight puts the finishing touches to its amazing potential for accelerating. This very special VMAX build is dedicated to legendary French Yamaha icon Jean-Claude Olivier, ‘JCO’.
