2010 Triumph Thunderbird First Look

Triumph has unveiled a new-for-2010 Thunderbird 1600. Set to be an early release model -- summer 2009 -- the bike will feature a new, 1600cc parallel twin engine with a six-speed transmission and belt drive (the first on a Triumph). Details are thin and technical specifications will not be released until next year but several details can be seen in the photos. Obviously, the styling is a departure from the Bonneville line of bikes but still similar to the Speedmaster, with elements that appear to have been pulled from a number of existing American and Japanese cruisers. For example the rear fender is very similar to the one on Suzuki's Boulevard M109R. Also apparent is that the machine will be liquid cooled, has triple disc brakes and a reasonably sized rear tire. Based on the power output of current models, we estimate rear wheel horsepower will be in the neighborhood of 95 to 100 hp. Triumph will offer "an extensive range of official accessories for riders who wish to tailor the bike to their individual needs. Whether they want a stripped-down and chromed-up hot rod with muscular performance or a fully-dressed classic style custom-tourer for two-up touring, Triumph's accessory range lets the rider customise the Thunderbird to their individual tastes." One more goody: ABS will be available as an option. More info as it becomes available....
